So as some of my Pownce brethren may have noticed, I’ve been away for awhile. I’ve actually been researching for the last week. You see I don’t use Twitter that much, but I’m currently hooked. I didn’t start out the week of “a little-pownce, a lot of Twitter” thinking that it’d end up as a story, but I noticed a few things. So let me list them..

1. Twitter is about popularity.
2. Twitter sucks for media sharing.
3. Twitter is fun.
4. Twitter is simple, but messy.

Ok, so lets start with numero uno, Popularity. I was never one of those “Why don’t I whore myself to no end so I in-turn get a billion MySpace ‘friends’” type of people, but Twitter is a different story. I love watching my followers go up! It’s actually fun. So here’s where Pownce comes in. Pownce lets you choose who sees the shit you’re posting, spiffy. It also lets you have friends, and fans, mega-spiffy! So all-in-all Pownce is more thought out. Pownce/1, Twitter/0

And now number two, media sharing. I hate tinyurl.com. They suck. Their site is ugly, and I just get a bad taste in my internet after using them. That said, I find Twitter to be a nightmare. I mean really, having to create a new URL for one that already exists. I know there’re proper uses, but it’s just aggravating. Pownce/2, Twitter/0

Number three is a biggy. This is why I like Twitter. Things that are fun, are great. I would NEVER use think of Twitter of anything more or anything less then something to do when I’m bored. Pownce can be fun, but it feels more like blogging, which I do like, but when push comes to shove, Twitter wins in the fun department. Pownce/2, Twitter/1

Now lets embark on number four, simplicity. Twitter is dead, and I mean dead, simple. So it gets some kudos, and pownce is a little more technical. Twitter downfall is that it’s messy. Pownce wins this one. Pownce is just so damn beautiful. Pownce/3, Twitter/1

So when push comes to shove twitter is a blast if you get into it, but Pownce is just so much prettier. I like pretty things, therefore Pownce is the champ here. Now you could say I’m sort bias, and I’d agree with you. I just thought this would make for an interesting conversation.

Thanks,
Josh.

  1. Heidi Cool Says:

    Josh,
Could you expound on premise 3? You assert that Twitter is fun…and if one knows @siriuslyheather that can’t be denied, but she is equally if not more fun on Pownce. So what do you think makes Twitter fun?

While I like the quickness when people I know are online and active, I can get that on Pownce as well (and can follow the thread.) Sometimes on Twitter I feel as though I’m trying to untangle 30 yards of rope–which has been mangled and knotted by a small pack of lion cubs. So what qualities do you think give Twitter the fun factor you are experiencing?
