This the first half of the questionnaire that we sent to Daniel Burka (Pownce Co-Founder and Designer). Look for part two in a few more days!

Wownce: How did you first become involved with Pownce?

Daniel Burka: I’ve been involved in Pownce since the idea was first germinated. Kevin had some ideas for a project, Leah had some ideas for a project, and both of them asked me to keep those ideas secret until things could be further flushed out. Well, those two ideas started to get more and more similar, so I suggested Kevin and Leah get together and see if they should be merged. We all had very complimentary skills, so developing something together just made sense.

W: Who has the biggest ego on the Pownce team?

D.B: Well, I’d like to say that none of us has a very big ego. I’ve increasingly been noticing that some people have a weird idea of internet ‘celebrity’ (those quotes indicate how preposterous the whole idea of celebrity is in the web world). I had some guy at SXSW in Austin say to me: “I can’t believe how down to earth you are.” Seriously? What did he expect? I’m just some guy who designs websites and as far as web celebrity goes, I’m an E lister at best. Go up and talk to anybody in our community and I’ll bet they’ll be super excited to talk to you about anything related to their work or yours – we’re all a bunch of geeks.

W: Who’s your “Internet Idol”?

D.B: I’ve always admired the work of Jeffrey Zeldman, Doug Bowman, and Dan Cederholm.

W: Do you think there are too many social networks?

D.B: Not really. I think we need to find better ways for social networks to talk to each other, but most social networks fill a viable niche.

W: What are your favorite social networks?

D.B: Pownce, obviously! I also really like Facebook, Last.fm, and Flickr.

W: What’s your strategy on adding people on Pownce? (Is everyone your friend or do you pick and choose..)

D.B: I generally only add people I know in the real-world or people I’ve really gotten to know in the Pownce community. I don’t want to add so many people that I can’t keep up with their conversations.

Thank you Daniel, and be sure to check back for part two in a few days!

Thanks,
