Featured Post I
April 14th, 2008

This featured post comes from Chris P. who writes “I just want to say to all my Pownce friends how much I enjoy all of you. I enjoy the community here more than any other “web 2.0 trap” I’ve gotten into!”.
Just let me say Chris that I totally agree, and you’re right – I enjoy all of my pals on Pownce. The people that I’ve met, like Heidi Cool and Daniel Burka, are just genuinely cool people. It seems as if Pownce had just enough passionate beta testers (me included) that the “gated community” feeling has remained, but it doesn’t feel like a prison.
Great post Chris!
Thanks for reading,
Our Q&A with Ariel Waldman!!
April 13th, 2008

This our Q&A with Miss Ariel Waldman.. The star of the Pownce Support Team! Enjoy.
Wownce: How did you first become involved with Pownce?
Ariel Waldman: I met Leah Culver shortly before I was planning to move to San Francisco and we discussed some of Pownce’s current needs and how I might be able to fulfill them. It turned out to be a great fit and I really enjoy working with such an awesome team of people.

Pownce vs. BitTorrent??
April 11th, 2008

So I had one of my closest pals fire a question at me, and it went sort of like this. “Isn’t Pownce just like BitTorrent or a P2P network. Aren’t those illegal?”, and I was floored. I’d thought of file sharing on Pownce as being illegal, but then quickly realized that it’s nothing like that truely.
Pownce restricts the sending of files to your friends only. Now I realize that this could be gipped quite easily, but I’m sure they’d give them the big old booty-slam called 86′d. So basically gipping the system isn’t an option. So what’s left? You could send links to the stuff that you’ve already posted to your pals and just tell the public to “Save Link As..”, but I also see that going nowhere fast. I think for the most part that many folks would never use Pownce to distribute illegal/copyrighted content. Most people would just rather use BitTorrent, and I think this is why it’s not truly something for good ol’ Powncey to get all rattled-tattled about.
So thanks for reading, and be sure to comment!
Pownce.. A Blog Substitute??
April 10th, 2008

Now I’ve recieved emails saying we should talk about “Tumblr vs. Pownce”, but I think that Pownce is more than just a feasible Tumblr competitor. Pownce, in all reality, could replace one’s personal blog! Now I realize that this couldn’t, and wouldn’t, work for every blogger, but I’ve heard of people doing it, and loving it! Just think, you have a photo you want to share. You don’t have much to say about it, but hey, you know folks would “digg” it. So in my personal opinion that’s not worth a blog post, but on Pownce it makes perfect sense! In the next paragraph I’ll get into the nitty-gritty of what makes Pownce such a great WordPress, TypePad, and Tumblog alternative.

PownceCast.. I Love It!!
April 8th, 2008

Ok so Jeff and I about a week ago recorded a ‘test” Wowncecast. So what the eff! That’s a WTF that’s actually light-hearted and loving in a “You eff-ers! You stole our idea (not really), but now I really wanna be a guest host via Skype!” kind of way. So really I’m just looking at the bright side of this and think “Thanks guys! That’s a load off our shoulders!”.
So now I’m going to try as hard as possible to get on the show to thank them for doing it (so we weren’t obligated to.), and also I could maybe chat-it-up a little. You see this would work perfect! I write for The Unofficial Pownce Weblog, and they do a pownce podcast! It’s a marriage made in social networking heaven.
I’ll see if I can get on the show. I think I might have a chance since one of the hosts and their producer, Tim, are also a Minnesotans.
Check out the show at PownceCast.com!
(Part One) Q&A with Daniel Burka
April 7th, 2008

This the first half of the questionnaire that we sent to Daniel Burka (Pownce Co-Founder and Designer). Look for part two in a few more days!
Wownce: How did you first become involved with Pownce?
Daniel Burka: I’ve been involved in Pownce since the idea was first germinated. Kevin had some ideas for a project, Leah had some ideas for a project, and both of them asked me to keep those ideas secret until things could be further flushed out. Well, those two ideas started to get more and more similar, so I suggested Kevin and Leah get together and see if they should be merged. We all had very complimentary skills, so developing something together just made sense.

Smart Integration..
April 4th, 2008

Pownce has now become known for something they do very well, integration. They manage to integrate with YouTube, Flickr, Zooomr, SnapFoo, and soon Qik. Why is this important? Well since there’s such great services out there like, lets say Flickr, that instead of allowing you to have “Albums” for photos, Pownce just integrates with Flickr, thus cutting down their own storage costs. It’s really, really smart when you think about all the stuff that Pownce doesn’t have to offer by instead just having super smart, super easy integration with social media sites.
Now not all is sugary and wonderful in Pownceland. They definitely need integration with more sites! Like Book-of-Faces, MySpace, Photobucket, Blogging standards (i.e. WordPress, Tumblr, etc.). Now I realize that this is a lot of work, but some of this would be really nice! I post most of my pictures on MySpace; So if I could post the MySpace link on Pownce, and have it do what it does with Flickr and Zooomr that my friend would be slick-shit (Don’t hate on MySpace, yo)!
Well I can hope that this gets across to to Leah so maybe, just maybe, some of this can happen!
P.S. Intergration with Blip.tv would be the first on my list!!
